Freedom fighter Mohan Ranade dies
New Delhi, June 25 (RNI): Freedom fighter Mohan Ranade, who participated in Goa’s liberation movement, passed away early morning today in Pune. He was 90. During Goa’s liberation movement, Ranade was active in attacking police stations at Betim, Banastarim and other outposts.

He was arrested by Portuguese police in 1955 and was imprisoned at the Fort of Caxias near Lisbon in Portugal. He was kept in solitary confinement for six years.

Ranade was released from prison in January 1969, after the liberation of Goa in 1961, having served 14 years. Ranade was awarded Padmashri in 2001 and Sangli Bhushan in 2006. He received the Goa Puraskar in 1986 for social work. He authored books on the Goa liberation movement.

Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant has condoled Mohan Ranade’s death. In a tweet, he said that Ranade was a fearless freedom fighter and his sacrifice and struggles for Goa will always be remembered.

New Delhi, 19 October 2019, (RNI): The Interministerial Committee held a meeting in New Delhi yesterday to review the price and availability situation of Onions, Tomatoes and Pulses and augment supplies. According to the Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution, Mother Dairy has agreed to sell Tomatoes at not more than 55 rupees per kilogram. Mother Dairy and Safal were also advised to consider repacking the tomato puree packets of 800 grams that are available with them into smaller packets for wider consumption and retailing at all their outlets. It was informed in the meeting that tomato rates have normalised in most states and the arrivals from Madhya Pradesh have begun which will have an immediate easing impact on prices.

Government of India’s Representative and Interlocutor for Naga Peace Talks, R N Ravi held a detailed consultation meeting with the primary stakeholders of the Naga society at Kohima in Nagaland yesterday. The meeting was held as some NSCN (I-M) leaders through various media platforms were misleading the people with absurd assumptions and presumptions over what they have already agreed with the Government of India. The meeting was attended by the apex leadership of all the 14 Naga tribes of Nagaland, all the minority non-Naga tribes of Nagaland, the Nagaland GB Federation, the Nagaland Tribes Council, the Church leaders and Civil Society Organizations. The Framework Agreement with (NSCN I-M) and the Agreed Position with the Working Committee of Naga National Political Groups (NNPGs) were extensively shared with the leaders, pertinent issues discussed and doubts on competencies clarified.
